A man in Pennsylvania, Michael Mikula, 68, faces charges related to the discovery of his deceased wife, Sharlene Mikula, 66, in their home. The police found Mrs. Mikula’s body in an advanced state of decomposition after a wellness check at the property. Authorities allege that Mikula attempted to hide his wife’s corpse for at least a month before it was found.
When officers arrived at the residence on April 14, they detected a strong smell of decomposition outside the property. Mikula initially denied his wife’s presence but later opened the door, revealing her body in the bedroom. He claimed that his wife had “passed” and insisted he had not done anything wrong. However, the police suspect that Mikula was aware of her death and took steps to conceal it.
The investigation into Mrs. Mikula’s death is ongoing, with forensic examinations expected to take up to three months for conclusive results. Mikula, held on a $100,000 bail, is charged with neglect resulting in death for failing to seek medical help for his wife before or after her passing. Authorities stated that there is no evidence suggesting Mikula sought medical assistance for his wife or informed the authorities of her death.
Prosecutors continue to delve into the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Mikula’s death, and Mikula is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on April 23.
