Skywatchers in Quebec and beyond are in for a special treat this week as they witness the Perseid meteor shower coinciding with a partial solar eclipse. The Astrolab astronomy center at Mont-Mégantic Provincial Park in Quebec states that the meteor shower will be visible from Tuesday to Friday.

The highlight will be on Wednesday when the meteor shower and the partial solar eclipse align, creating a rare celestial spectacle. It is crucial to view the partial eclipse safely by using approved solar eclipse glasses as recommended by experts.

Quebec’s provincial parks authority anticipates optimal viewing conditions due to a new moon phase that will not emit any light. The Perseids, remnants of comet Swift-Tuttle, will be on display, originating from an icy celestial body that orbits the sun every 133 years, with its next appearance not expected until 2125.

Furthermore, a partial lunar eclipse is scheduled to grace the skies over Quebec on the night of August 27-28, adding a third astronomical event to the month’s celestial lineup.
