“Peter Gabriel’s Glasgow Music Festival Cancelled Due to Low Sales”

Published on

A music festival organized by former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel has been canceled in Glasgow due to low ticket sales. The event, known as World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD), was supposed to take place in Kelvingrove Park on July 3 and July 4, making its debut in the city.

Glasgow Life, the event organizer, announced the cancellation, citing financial concerns as the reason for the decision. Ticket holders will receive full refunds and have the option to purchase discounted tickets for the next event at Neston Park in North Wiltshire from July 23 to 26.

WOMAD had promised a diverse lineup of both established and emerging artists showcasing various music genres like pop, dance, folk, jazz, and hip-hop in Glasgow this summer. The festival has been held in 30 countries over the past three decades, including locations in Spain, Chile, and New Zealand.

Notable past performers at WOMAD festivals include Peter Gabriel, Simple Minds, Crowded House, Macy Gray, De La Soul, and Echo and the Bunnymen. The Glasgow event was set to feature artists like Hollie Cook, Ustad Noor Bakhsh, and Peat and Diesel.

In a statement on WOMAD’s website, it was expressed that while there was positive feedback on the event’s program and vision, ticket sales did not meet the necessary level to sustain the festival in its first year. The organization acknowledged the disappointment this news may bring to ticket holders and expressed gratitude to all involved parties for their support.

Affected customers will receive refunds and have the opportunity to attend the upcoming WOMAD event in Neston Park. Refunds will be processed automatically within 7 working days.
