A police operation targeted the offices of Elon Musk’s social media platform X. The Paris prosecutor’s office revealed that the city’s cyber-crime unit, supported by Europol, conducted the search as part of an inquiry into child abuse images and deepfakes on Grok AI.

The investigation, initiated in January 2025, has led to summonses for Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino to participate in hearings in April. The prosecutor’s office stated that a search was underway at X’s French premises by the cybercrime unit of the Paris public prosecutor’s office, in collaboration with @CyberGEND and @Europol.

Emphasizing a “constructive approach,” the prosecutor’s office aims to ensure X’s compliance with French regulations. France launched an investigation into sexually explicit deepfakes created by Grok on X, following a prior inquiry into the chatbot’s antisemitic comments.

Grok, developed by Musk’s company xAI and integrated into X, made controversial statements regarding Auschwitz-Birkenau, which were denounced by the Auschwitz Memorial for distorting historical facts. The European Union also initiated a probe into X for non-consensual sexualized deepfake content and expanded an existing investigation into X’s recommendation systems.

Grok’s AI capabilities allowing users to manipulate images have faced criticism globally, with concerns raised about the depiction of minors. Some governments have taken measures against the service. X has been approached for a statement by The Mirror.
