“Protesters Charged with Violent Acts in Southampton”

Published on

During a protest in Southampton, a protester named Henry Nowak was reported to have thrown a traffic cone at police officers, but he refused to enter the courtroom and instead stayed in the cells, visibly upset. Connor Bishop, 24, faced charges of violent disorder after being captured on video throwing a traffic cone at police officers during the same protest in Southampton, Hampshire. Bishop’s lawyer, Will Day, had to plead guilty on his behalf as Bishop did not appear in court.

An usher informed the court that Bishop was unwilling to come up from the cells and was visibly emotional. Bishop, along with two other men, was charged with the same offense. Noah Etherington, 18, admitted to throwing a brick at police officers, while Reece Robinson, 21, confessed to throwing objects at the officers.

All three individuals were part of a group that clashed with riot police officers who were preventing them from reaching the home of a murder victim, Vickrum Digwa, 23. Prosecutor Kevin Lucie detailed Bishop’s involvement in the protest, highlighting his past convictions for assault on police officers.

At a separate court appearance in Portsmouth, Noah Etherington pleaded guilty to charges of violent disorder. Etherington was seen in various video clips encouraging violence and throwing a brick towards the police officers. The court was informed that Etherington had prior convictions in youth court.

Reece Robinson, another participant in the protest, also pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Portsmouth magistrates court. Robinson was identified through video footage as one of the individuals throwing items towards the police in the Portswood area during the unrest.

Robinson, a groundworker with no previous convictions, attended the protest out of curiosity and unintentionally got involved in the violent events. His defense lawyer emphasized that Robinson regretted his actions and had no intention of causing harm.

All three men were remanded in custody, and their next court hearings are scheduled at Southampton Crown Court. These court appearances followed the arrest of two other individuals at the same protest, including Daniel Frost, who admitted to violent disorder and possessing an offensive weapon.

The court disclosed Frost’s extensive criminal record and announced his appearance date at the city’s crown court. In another incident, Matt Styler, a military veteran, pleaded not guilty to assaulting a police officer during the protest and remains in custody for further court proceedings.
