Rapper D4vd, also known as David Anthony Burke, faces legal action in connection with the tragic death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The musician, aged 21, was taken into custody last week after authorities discovered the teenager’s body in his Tesla vehicle. Despite his denial of involvement, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced the formal charges today, describing the case as a “brutal and horrific murder.”
During a press briefing, Hochman disclosed that the prosecution might pursue the death penalty in this case, emphasizing the heart-wrenching scenario of a parent’s worst nightmare when a daughter vanishes inexplicably. Burke is confronted with three serious charges, including first-degree murder with the aggravating factor of premeditation as the victim visited his premises.
Moreover, Burke is accused of committing murder for financial motives, with Hochman suggesting that the musician resorted to such heinous actions to safeguard his music career, citing a threatening encounter with Celeste on the fateful night. The third charge levied against Burke pertains to the alleged slaying of a witness linked to an investigation regarding inappropriate conduct by the musician when the victim was under 14 years old.
The remains of Hernandez were unearthed in the trunk of D4vd’s impounded Tesla on September 8, 2025, following complaints of a putrid smell at a Hollywood tow yard. Hernandez, a resident of Lake Elsinore, California, was reported missing in April 2024.
Addressing the delayed arrest, Hochman explained the necessity for gathering comprehensive information in such intricate cases. He urged individuals possessing knowledge about Burke to step forward. Subsequently, a court directive prohibits the disclosure of specific details regarding Hernandez’s demise through the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
Following Burke’s apprehension, his legal representatives, Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter, released a statement underscoring their intent to vigorously defend Burke’s innocence, asserting that the evidence would vindicate him. The defense team emphasized the absence of a grand jury indictment or criminal complaint against Burke, reiterating his detention as a mere investigative measure.
