Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have collaborated with Robert Irwin, the son of the late conservationist Steve Irwin, to give a name to a new baby kangaroo under care at Australia Zoo. The joey has been named Cwtch, a Welsh term for cuddle, as it is a delightful eastern grey kangaroo joey who loves to cuddle and spends most of its time nestled in its mother’s pouch. Robert Irwin, who manages Australia Zoo in Queensland and supports Prince William’s Earthshot Prize, expressed gratitude to the royal children for helping choose a perfect name for the new addition to the zoo.
In a social media post, Robert Irwin shared the news about Cwtch and encouraged visitors to Australia Zoo to meet the joey and support the conservation efforts aimed at safeguarding Australia’s wildlife and natural habitats. Notably, Prince George had a memorable encounter with a bilby named George during a royal visit to Australia in 2014 at Taronga Zoo in Sydney.
Robert Irwin highlighted the significance of kangaroos in maintaining Australia’s ecosystem by regulating grassland health and reducing fire risks. Online admirers praised the adorable joey, with many expressing excitement over the royal family’s involvement in naming Cwtch. The public’s enthusiasm was evident as they shared warm comments and expressed a desire to visit the wildlife sanctuary to witness Cwtch and other marvelous kangaroos in person.
