Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, a long-time equerry of King Charles who is often seen in a kilt, has delighted his followers with unexpected baby news. Reports confirm that Jonny and his wife Olivia recently welcomed a baby girl. The couple, who tied the knot last year in a private ceremony, have been described by friends as a well-suited and joyful pair.
Jonny, previously married to Caroline with whom he shares a son, found love with Olivia, a PR executive and daughter of the late Queen’s former communications secretary, Simon Lewis. The birth announcement disclosed that their newborn daughter is named Theodora.
A notice in The Times announced the birth: “THOMPSON on 20th May 2026 to Olivia (née Lewis) and Lieutenant Colonel Jonny, a daughter, Theodora.”
Jonny, a soldier from the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, is frequently spotted wearing a traditional kilt while accompanying the King on official duties. Equerries, who come from the armed forces, provide support to royals both at home and during public appearances.
Having been by the King’s side since his reign began, Jonny has played key roles in significant events such as the late Queen’s funeral, the Coronation, and accompanying the royal couple on their recent visit to the US, where they met with Donald Trump.
In addition to his public appearances, Jonny has received acclaim from Tatler magazine for his style and presence. He is often seen at important events and gatherings, charming those around him.
Apart from Jonny, the King can also rely on other deputies including Captain Hugh Scrope of the Coldstream Guards and the first female equerry to the sovereign, Captain Kat Anderson.
