Royal Mail is conducting an investigation following accusations that a postal worker admitted to discarding Reform UK campaign leaflets in a bin. The incident came to light through a post on a Facebook group for Royal Mail employees, where the worker allegedly boasted about disposing of the materials. A letter of complaint was sent to Royal Mail’s CEO, Alistair Cochrane, by a legal representative of Reform UK, detailing the concerning behavior.
In response to the allegations, Royal Mail has launched a full investigation, emphasizing its commitment to impartiality in mail delivery, especially during election periods. Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, expressed his support for the investigation, highlighting the importance of upholding the democratic process.
Reform UK has demanded a prompt and thorough internal investigation by Royal Mail, along with a written explanation and details of any proposed compensation for the disruption caused. The party considers the incident a breach of Royal Mail’s obligations and a threat to political campaigning rights.
The Facebook group where the post originated is accessible to Royal Mail employees, partners, and members of the Communication Workers Union. It excludes current or former Royal Mail managers from membership.
