“Ryanair Warns Passengers: Name Mistakes Could Cost £160”

Published on

Passengers traveling with Ryanair have been cautioned against a costly mistake that could result in significant bills just before their flight. This error often occurs when individuals hastily book flights using small mobile keypads or due to typing errors, leading to misspelled names. Rectifying such mistakes can incur fees of up to £160 for passengers flying with Ryanair.

As of April 2026, this charge is still in effect and prominently displayed on the Ryanair website. Alongside the standard £100 penalty for missed flights, the name correction fee is among the highest charges imposed by Ryanair on passengers. The airline does allow changes to passenger information, but within specific timeframes and subject to terms and conditions.

Ryanair’s policy permits name corrections online up to 24 hours before departure or at the airport up to two hours before take-off, albeit with a fee. Minor name adjustments, such as swapping first and last names or changing up to three characters per name, can be made for free within 48 hours of booking.

However, if passengers only notice the error upon reaching the airport, rectifying it could cost as much as £160. It is crucial to act swiftly as the charges escalate beyond the initial 48-hour window. Passengers must book directly through Ryanair to qualify for the free corrections within the stipulated timeframe.

In cases where corrections exceed the 48-hour limit, passengers will face a £115 fee for a name change, rising to £160 if processed at the airport. It is advisable to check individual airline policies regarding name corrections, as some may offer free amendments for minor errors reported promptly. Ensuring that the name on the booking matches the passport is essential to avoid any inconveniences during travel.

For passengers who discover errors after the initial timeframe, starting a new booking might be a more cost-effective solution than paying the change fee. Ryanair has also clarified that passengers with bookings under maiden names can update their information at no extra cost by providing appropriate documentation, such as a marriage certificate.

In summary, being vigilant during the booking process and promptly addressing any errors can help passengers avoid unnecessary charges and ensure a smooth travel experience.
