Nunavut RCMP reported that Clyde River residents are currently looking for a young boy who went missing nearly a week ago after drifting away while floating in the bay near the Baffin Island settlement. The incident occurred on August 6 when two adolescents were on separate makeshift rafts and were carried further into the bay by the current. One of the youths fell into the water from his raft and did not surface, with neither of them wearing life jackets as stated by the RCMP.
Search and rescue operations, involving the RCMP, community volunteers, and search teams, were promptly initiated to locate the missing boy. The search efforts have utilized boats, ATVs, drones, and on-foot searches along the bay’s shoreline.
The RCMP has confirmed that the second youth who was with the missing boy did manage to return safely to Clyde River.
