Three individuals, including two five-year-old children, are currently in critical condition after a serious collision on the A59 in Lancashire. The incident, involving a Skoda Karoq and a Volkswagen Golf R, occurred near the junction with Strawberry Fields around 4pm on Thursday. Emergency services responded swiftly, with three air ambulances, three fire engines, nine ambulances, and 12 police vehicles on the scene.
The injured parties, a woman in her 60s and the two young children, were rushed to the hospital and are currently being treated for their severe injuries. Additionally, the driver of the VW Golf, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and is also receiving medical care.
After a six-hour road closure for collision investigation work, the A59 has since reopened fully. Lancashire Police have not made any arrests related to the incident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information or footage that could assist in the investigation. Sgt Anthony Beckett of the Roads Policing Unit expressed concern for the injured individuals and emphasized the need for cooperation from the public in providing any relevant dashcam footage or details.
