A woman with two children suffered a life-altering brain injury after falling 40 feet while sleepwalking during a trip to Paris. Raina Heverin, 44, switched rooms with her brother and sister-in-law due to noise outside her original room. They offered her a quieter room with a balcony, where the incident occurred.
Raina, from Liverpool, has no memory of the fall, believing she was sleepwalking. Discovered by her brother in the courtyard below, she was rushed to a hospital with severe injuries. She spent weeks in a coma, sustaining brain bleeding, a punctured lung, and multiple fractures.
Prior to the accident, Raina led an active lifestyle, running two businesses and caring for her children. Her physical fitness was credited with aiding her recovery. Diagnosed with ataxia and other complications, Raina faces challenges with balance and motor skills.
After awakening from the coma, Raina struggled to come to terms with her new reality. She has since written a children’s book about her condition and raised funds for a brain charity. Despite the hardships, she remains optimistic about the future and encourages others in rehabilitation to persevere.
Raina’s journey of recovery includes relearning daily tasks, adapting to physical limitations, and navigating emotional ups and downs. Her resilience and determination inspire those around her as she continues to embrace life post-injury.
