Starting her musical journey in Missouri, Carr began singing in church with her siblings before transitioning to soul music. She landed her first solo recording deal with Chess Records in Chicago in 1966, marking the beginning of a successful career that spanned several decades.

In the 1980s, Carr released her debut album, “Good Woman Go Bad,” in 1989, followed by “Street Woman” in 1992. She later signed with Ecko Records in 1996, where she produced hits like “Footprints on the Ceiling” and “The Bo Hawg Grind.” Carr recorded a total of nine albums with Ecko, including two compilation albums.

Throughout her later years, Carr received numerous accolades, including two Living Blues Readers Awards for Female Blues Artist of the Year. She was also a multiple-time nominee for Blues Music Awards, particularly in the ‘Soul Blues Female Artist’ category in 2013 and 2014.

Beyond her musical achievements, Carr was remembered in her obituary as a devoted family woman, survived by her husband, Bill Greensmith, and four children. Her husband and daughter shared heartfelt messages honoring her memory.
