A teenager facing charges related to an alleged bomb threat that led to the evacuation of a Peter Kay comedy show had an unusual incident during his court appearance. Omar Majed, 19, was participating in a video-link hearing from HMP Brinsford at Birmingham Crown Court when he had to be taken out of the courtroom as he started removing his prison-issue clothing.

During the hearing, Judge Andrew Smith KC was attempting to communicate with Majed, who had not yet entered a plea due to the requirement for psychiatric assessments, to inform him of his next court appearance. However, the proceedings were interrupted when Majed began undressing, prompting prison staff to intervene and remove him from the video link session.

The court decided to postpone Majed’s arraignment and scheduled a case management hearing for July 27, with a tentative trial date set for November 3. Majed, a resident of Saltley, Birmingham, was charged under the Criminal Law Act for allegedly providing false information to the police.

The incident occurred during Peter Kay’s performance at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on May 1, which was cut short and ultimately canceled following the evacuation. Despite the disruption, West Midlands Police confirmed that no suspicious items were found after thorough searches.

The show was part of Peter Kay’s national tour, “Better Late Than Never,” where all proceeds are dedicated to supporting 12 cancer charities.
