Two women are in critical condition after a telegraph pole collapsed on them at a bustling train station. An air ambulance swiftly responded to the incident in Rhondda, Wales, at 12:50 pm on Thursday, where the women were found trapped beneath the fallen pole. One of the victims sustained severe injuries considered life-threatening, while the other was also in critical condition following the incident at Pontyclun train station.
The pole, carrying live electricity wires, struck the women in the station’s parking lot before they were promptly transported to University Hospital of Wales for urgent medical attention. A spokesperson from South Wales Police confirmed the incident, stating, “South Wales Police received a call at 12:50 pm reporting two women trapped under a telegraph pole at the car park of Pontyclun train station. The women have been taken to University Hospital of Wales for ongoing medical care.”
Pontyclun station, an unstaffed facility situated on the south Wales line connecting Cardiff and Maesteg, occasionally operates regional Swanline services running between Cardiff Central and Swansea.
