Published on

A special ride in honor of the late Hairy Biker, Dave Myers, is gearing up to be the final one, described as a truly magical occasion by his widow. Led by Dave’s close friend and fellow Hairy Biker, Si King, a group of motorcyclists will journey from London to Barrow in Cumbria to commemorate Dave’s life, who passed away due to cancer in 2024.

Despite facing financial challenges, the organizer, Jason Woodcock, revealed that this upcoming event, titled ‘The Last Ride Home,’ will mark the culmination of the tribute rides. The details were disclosed as Lili, Dave’s widow, expressed overwhelming interest from the public about the ride.

Anticipating a significant turnout, thousands of bikers are expected to participate in remembering the beloved TV chef. The Westmorland and Furness Council has allocated £10,000 for the procession’s safe management along the route.

Commencing at the Ace Cafe in London at 7 am on June 20, the riders will follow a route passing through Oxford, the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull, Knutsford, and Lancaster. Lili Myers, Dave’s widow, shared her thoughts on the challenging yet rewarding journey of organizing the ride, expressing gratitude for the immense support received from the community.

Describing the outpouring of love and support from bikers and fans as a precious gift, Lili emphasized the warmth and camaraderie she has experienced within the biking community. She acknowledged the diverse reasons why people connect with Dave’s story, from his passion for travel and food to his battle with illness, uniting individuals facing challenges of their own.

Led by Si King, the ride aims to break records by gathering the largest number of motorbikes, following the success of previous events that raised substantial funds for charity. The Westmorland and Furness Council praised the previous Dave Days as remarkable occasions that brought the community together to celebrate the life of Dave Myers, a cherished figure in Barrow.

Having shouldered the safety costs for the past events, the council emphasized the need to prioritize funding for community organizations in Barrow, ensuring continued support for local initiatives.
