An inquiry is currently in progress following an altercation at a train station that resulted in three men sustaining knife wounds.
British Transport Police (BTP) responded to a report of multiple individuals with stab injuries at Egham railway station in Surrey around 9pm on Friday. A man in his thirties has been apprehended on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) and is currently in police custody.
BTP, along with Surrey Police and paramedics, arrived at the scene and discovered four individuals injured. Two men aged 20 sustained stab wounds, while a 22-year-old man suffered a slash injury to his face. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening. Additionally, an 18-year-old teenager was assaulted.
Among the injured, three men are students at Royal Holloway University of London. A university spokesperson mentioned that the three students are receiving support and will continue to be assisted.
According to police, at least two other individuals are believed to have fled from the scene.
Although BTP classified the incident as “serious,” they stated that it was an “isolated” occurrence.
Detective Superintendent David Udomhiaye from BTP stated, “We’re mindful of the concerns within the local community, and while this event is undoubtedly serious, I can confirm that fortunately, no fatalities have occurred. This is being treated as a singular event at the station involving two groups of individuals who, as far as we know, were not acquainted with each other.”
An investigation is currently ongoing to determine the sequence of events. The Mirror has reached out to BTP for an update.
DS Udomhiaye added, “Officers have been collaborating with partners throughout the night to ascertain the details of the incident. A restrictive area is still in place, and we appreciate the local community’s patience and understanding as this crucial work progresses. We are collaborating with Network Rail partners to minimize disruptions as much as possible.
