A British woman, identified as Brooke George, 23, is currently detained in Dubai’s Bur Dubai prison, facing allegations of murdering a 26-year-old British man she met online. George, a former John Lewis shop assistant and a TikTok influencer with a substantial following, is accused of fatally stabbing the man with a kitchen knife following their meeting on Facebook, where he arranged a photoshoot for her in Dubai.
During her second visit to Dubai, an altercation reportedly occurred at an apartment after a night out at Caffreys Bar in Jumeirah Village. George claimed she was attacked and, in self-defense, grabbed a nearby kitchen knife. She managed to arrange a flight back home but was apprehended at Dubai International Airport on June 22 and charged with murder, potentially facing the death penalty by firing squad if found guilty.
After her arrest, George alleged mistreatment, including being denied legal representation and forced to strip naked in front of male officers without female presence, leading to distressing and humiliating experiences. Her family expressed deep concerns for her well-being, highlighting her desperation to return home.
Advocates from Detained in Dubai are advocating for George’s release on bail, urging authorities to view the incident as a case of domestic abuse and ensure a fair trial. They emphasize the need for a thorough examination of the events leading to the tragedy. Allegations of exploitation and mistreatment of women in Dubai, including social media influencers and travelers, have been raised, emphasizing the importance of investigating George’s claims seriously.
Calls have been made for George to receive protection, medical care, legal support, and British consular assistance throughout the investigation. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been contacted for comment on the matter.
