Shocking video footage captured a harrowing incident where tourists found themselves in a life-threatening situation at sea following a collision between a speedboat and a fishing trawler near a popular holiday destination.
The collision, which occurred off the well-known Phi-Phi Islands in Thailand, resulted in all 52 individuals onboard the boat, including passengers and crew members, being thrown into the water. Tragically, one tourist, believed to be an 18-year-old woman from Russia, lost her life in the accident.
In response to the emergency, a large-scale rescue operation was initiated as images depicted holidaymakers and crew members struggling to stay afloat in the sea. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and desperation as passengers tried to assist their loved ones and fellow tourists in staying above water after the collision involving the Korawich Marine 888 tourist boat.
Eyewitnesses recounted the frantic moments of people screaming and clinging to each other, with some desperately pulling their family members out of the water. Distressing images showed individuals’ heads appearing above the water’s surface, accompanied by cries for help, while the front section of the speedboat was visibly damaged from the impact of the crash in the Andaman Sea.
Additional photos from the scene illustrated other tourists attempting to climb back onto the damaged boat in a desperate bid to escape the water before official assistance arrived. The incident took place near Koh Gai Island, situated in the vicinity of the Phi Phi Islands, between Phuket and Krabi.
Reports from local sources indicated that all passengers from the distressed tourist vessel were swiftly rescued from the water and brought ashore, although several visitors sustained injuries, with at least one individual in critical condition who was promptly transported to Phi Phi Hospital for urgent medical care.
Tragically, a Russian woman identified as Elizaveta S is believed to have lost her life in the maritime tragedy. The injured individuals received treatment from paramedics and were subsequently transferred to hospitals in Phuket for further medical attention.
Thai authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, focusing on factors such as speed, visibility, and navigation protocols at the time of the incident. Officials confirmed that the fishing trawler Pichai Samut 1 sustained no damage, while the speedboat endured significant structural failure.
