A couple of tourists tragically fell to their deaths from a 65ft height when a suspension bridge they were crossing collapsed during a leisurely hike. The incident occurred on the Indonesian island of Flores where Astrid, 56, and Jürgen, 54, lost their lives. The wooden suspension bridge, spanning 54 yards, was a route to the popular Cunca Waterfall, but it gave way, causing the couple to plummet into the river filled with rocks below.
Their guide, who witnessed the horrific event, recounted seeing the couple walking happily side by side before the bridge collapsed with a loud cracking sound, resembling a falling branch. Photos taken post-accident revealed the bridge missing several planks and severely damaged.
Despite only making it a short distance onto the bridge, the couple could not be saved, as authorities confirmed their deaths at the scene. Retrieving their bodies proved challenging due to the rugged terrain.
The Cunca Wulang waterfall, known for its breathtaking views, attracts many tourists but can be a challenging location to reach. Following the tragedy, authorities closed the area temporarily for safety inspections, as similar incidents of fatal falls have occurred in the past.
In a separate incident, YouTube influencer Stacey Tourout and her partner Matthew Yeomans met a tragic fate after their car crashed and plunged 650ft off a mountain in Canada. Despite initial survival, Stacey sustained severe head injuries and succumbed to them despite immediate medical attention. Matthew tragically died instantly upon impact.
