Two infants, aged four months, have passed away, and approximately 55 children have sustained injuries due to a suspected harmful substance exposure at a nursery. The incident occurred at a daycare facility on Ha-Mag Street in Jerusalem’s Romema neighborhood.

Emergency services responded to the situation, with the unconscious babies receiving initial treatment on-site before being transported to Haare Zedek and Hadassah Mount Scopus hospitals. Tragically, the Israeli emergency services confirmed the deaths of the infants. Over 25 injured children are currently receiving medical care at Shaare Zedek hospital.

Authorities are investigating the incident, initially believed to be a chemical attack but possibly linked to a carbon monoxide leak. The building was promptly evacuated, and HazMat units are onsite to assess the area for hazardous materials.

Medical teams continue to provide care to the affected children, while social and administrative support is being extended to their families. The Education Ministry has disclosed that the incident took place at a private daycare center in Romema.

Residents in the area have been advised to avoid the vicinity as a specialized team works to identify the substance and ventilate the affected areas. Law enforcement and firefighters are collaborating to secure the scene and ensure public safety.

In a police statement, it was mentioned that the authorities are actively managing the situation and urge the public to cooperate by staying away from the building to facilitate emergency operations.
