A man who sought medical help for arm pain, thinking it was a muscle strain, tragically passed away at his residence weeks later. Iain Cook, aged 29, visited the doctor due to discomfort in his left arm despite being active and seemingly healthy. Unfortunately, his wife discovered him lifeless at home one evening.

It was later revealed that Iain had an undiagnosed heart condition, leading to his sudden death. His friend, Mike Scott, shared Iain’s story to raise awareness and potentially save lives. The post-mortem examination identified coronary heart disease and left ventricular hypertrophy as the causes of his demise on October 31, 2016, despite his visit to the GP.

Mike recalled urging Iain to have his heart checked, but the diagnosis of muscle strain from work activities misled them. No one suspected Iain had an underlying heart issue, given his active lifestyle and recent life milestones.

The charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) highlighted that many young individuals in the UK die weekly from undiagnosed heart conditions, often with no prior symptoms. Mike emphasized the prevalence of such conditions among his acquaintances and the profound impact on families.

Remembering Iain as a caring and enthusiastic individual, Mike initiated The Batman Challenge in remembrance of his friend. The fundraising campaign aims to generate £20,000 for CRY to conduct cardiac screenings in Iain’s honor. The challenge includes various activities like an abseil, charity cycle, and other events to support the cause.
