A mother of two who tumbled off a tall bar stool in a hotel lounge initially downplayed the incident and declined assistance before being discovered unresponsive the following morning and hurried to a medical facility where she succumbed to a severe brain injury.

Kadie Hunt, aged 38, fell from the bar stool at the boutique Welbeck Manor and golf hotel in Sparkwell, Devon, after an afternoon of drinking with her cousin and friends. Kadie, a frequent guest at the hotel, was captured on CCTV consuming three pints of lager, a double gin and tonic, and four glasses of wine throughout the afternoon.

During an inquest at Exeter Coroner’s Court, it was revealed that a staff member had momentarily looked away when a crash was heard, finding Kadie on the floor having fallen off the stool and hitting her head on a marble fireplace. The inquest disclosed that the head injury she sustained was fatal, but the altruistic mother chose to donate her organs to save others.

Kadie, originally from Plymouth but residing in Sparkwell, declined assistance to rise from the floor after the fall and seemed somewhat embarrassed about the incident, as per the coroner’s report. She appeared uninjured and nonchalant about the fall, with a friend eventually taking her home where she seemed fine, as reported by Plymouth Live.

However, the next morning, Kadie was discovered unresponsive in her bathroom with facial injuries, prompting a call for an ambulance. She was rushed to a Plymouth hospital, but her condition worsened, leading to her demise from a traumatic head injury.

The inquest revealed that Kadie had been drinking heavily due to personal grief and challenges, but was described as lively and coherent at the bar. Despite falling from the stool, she managed to hold onto her phone and seemingly disregarded the incident, with staff perceiving it as a minor mishap.

Subsequent CCTV footage from the hotel depicted a tipsy Kadie stumbling with an unsteady gait and striking her head on the marble fireplace surround. Her cause of death was determined to be a traumatic brain bleed, consistent with the impact on the hard surface.

During a prior hearing, the court noted the medical cause of death as “traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage with traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage,” a type of stroke involving bleeding in the brain’s surrounding space. Authorities confirmed no foul play in the incident.

Alison Longhorn, the area coroner for Devon, highlighted that mortuary assistant Kadie had been consuming heavy amounts of alcohol, up to 70 units per week, and was highly intoxicated at the time of the fall. The conclusion drawn was accidental death exacerbated by alcohol intoxication.

Kadie’s mother, Shirley, aged 60, disclosed that her daughter, a lover of animals, had not previously mentioned being on the organ donor registry. Following her daughter’s untimely passing, Shirley emphasized Kadie’s selflessness, stating that even in death, she continued to help others through organ donation.

Expressing her admiration for her daughter’s altruism, Shirley remarked on the lives saved by Kadie’s organ donations, depicting her as a hero for giving everything, including her skin, to those in need. The swift organ retrieval process and the compassionate donor team were commended for their exceptional support.

In the aftermath of her passing, a spokesperson from Welbeck Manor expressed deep sadness over Kadie’s demise, highlighting her positive rapport with the entire team and extending condolences to her family and friends.
