A tragic incident unfolded when a pilot instructor reportedly leaped from an aircraft during a training flight, leaving a 22-year-old trainee to handle the landing. The pilot, identified as Leandro Andrés Bertazzo, 42, took this drastic action over Toledo, south of Córdoba in Argentina. The trainee, named Rosario, managed to safely land the plane after the instructor’s sudden exit.
Rosario recounted that before jumping, Leandro instructed her to continue flying and then proceeded to exit the aircraft at an altitude of approximately 820 feet. Despite the challenging circumstances, the trainee maintained composure, followed emergency protocols, and successfully landed the plane without damage.
Upon receiving the distress call from the student, school director Eduardo Álvarez mobilized a search team that located the instructor’s body within a short timeframe. Despite no apparent signs of distress earlier in the day, Leandro had unexpectedly taken this fatal action, shocking his colleagues and the aviation community in Córdoba.
The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing, with authorities exploring all aspects of the incident. While no prior warnings were evident during routine health checks, the circumstances surrounding Leandro’s actions remain a subject of inquiry by the Federal Justice of Córdoba. Witnesses suggest that the pilot’s actions were deliberate, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.
