Former President Donald Trump has urged for a halt to the increasing hostilities between Iran and Israel. Trump, posting on Truth Social, emphasized the immediate need for Israel and Iran to cease their confrontations. This call for peace came following Israel’s retaliatory strikes against Iran in response to missile attacks on northern Israel, threatening the fragile ceasefire in the region.
In a series of tit-for-tat actions, explosions were reported in Tehran, and the Karun Petrochemical Company in southwestern Iran was targeted. Israel Defense Forces confirmed striking multiple targets in Iran. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps retaliated by attacking a petrochemical plant in Haifa, Israel, and two military bases.
While a short-term ceasefire was brokered in April, lasting peace negotiations between the US and Iran have not yet been successful. The recent exchange of strikes was triggered by Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, prompting Iran’s response against northern Israel.
Despite the escalating violence, Trump remains confident that the ongoing strikes between Israel and Iran will not hinder peace talks. Israel subsequently launched further strikes in western and central Iran. Trump asserted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would ultimately have to align with the US stance on a peace agreement.
Trump’s statement to the Financial Times emphasized his authority in determining the course of action, stating that he holds the decision-making power in the situation.
