Donald Trump has revealed plans for a massive 250-foot triumphal arch to be constructed in Washington DC as an homage to himself. This proposed monument would surpass the height of Washington DC’s Lincoln Memorial and, according to the President, outshine the renowned Arc de Triomphe. Renderings of the arch depict a grand white structure with intricate gold leaf decorations, featuring the inscription “One Nation Under God” in gold lettering at its peak.

The intended location for this monumental arch is Memorial Circle, situated near Arlington National Cemetery on the opposite side of the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial, which stands at a height of 99 feet. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the undertaking, framing it as a tribute to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary of independence.

Leavitt stated, “President Trump and the Department of Interior will present plans for the United States Triumphal Arc, a magnificent architectural creation to commemorate our history here in Washington DC.” She emphasized that the 250-foot-tall arc would honor 250 years of American history and serve as an enduring source of inspiration for future generations.

The genesis of the arch can be traced back to Trump’s visit to Paris during his initial term, where he participated in an Armistice Day ceremony beneath the Arc de Triomphe. Reflecting on this experience, Trump expressed his desire to surpass the iconic French landmark with a larger and more impressive structure in Washington DC.

While the proposal has stirred controversy, evolving from a modest concept to a towering 250-foot design, it is yet to receive formal approval for construction. Critics, including classical architects, veterans’ groups, and early supporters, have voiced concerns about the potential impact of such a sizable monument on the surrounding landscape, particularly Arlington National Cemetery.
