A tsunami warning has been issued for Venezuela following a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck near the country’s coast on the night of June 24. The NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported that the earthquake occurred around 10pm at a depth of 10 kilometers. The center stated that there is a possibility of hazardous tsunami waves affecting coastal areas within 300 kilometers of the earthquake’s epicenter, including Bonaire, Venezuela, Curacao, and Aruba.
Meanwhile, the NWS National Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to the U.S. east coast, Gulf states, or eastern Canada. Additionally, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake was detected with the epicenter located 42 kilometers east northeast of Noda, Japan.
