The passing of Michael Byrne, known for portraying Ted Page, Gail Platt’s estranged father on television, has been confirmed.
A prominent figure in theatre and TV, Byrne, aged 82, shared the screen with renowned actors such as Sean Connery and Harrison Ford. Originating from Hampstead, he graced the screens of the ITV soap opera from 2008 to 2010, assuming the role of Gail’s absent father.
One of his memorable moments was giving Gail away at her wedding to Joe McIntyre before his character’s departure from the show in 2021.
Byrne commenced his acting journey on stage, participating in productions during the 1960s alongside esteemed names like Maggie Smith and Robert Stephens in plays like Shaffer’s “The Royal Hunt of the Sun” and Pinero’s “Trelawny of the Wells.”
Throughout his illustrious career, he appeared in notable films such as “Braveheart” and the James Bond movie “Tomorrow Never Dies,” even sharing the screen with Sir Ian McKellen.
Survived by his former wife Carole, who provided care in his final days, Byrne leaves behind two daughters, Tara and Bryony, as well as three grandchildren: Tom, Chloe, and Jasmine.
