“UK Braces for Blizzard: Detailed Forecast Revealed”

Published on

Detailed weather maps reveal the precise timing and locations of predicted blizzards.

Snowfall is expected across the UK on Friday according to both the BBC and the Met Office. Temperatures could drop to -9C in some regions, leading to heavy snowfall, especially in parts of northern England.

Metdesk’s weather maps show widespread snow cover across the country, reaching as far south as Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Herefordshire. Snow is forecast to begin in the Northeast of England on Friday morning, particularly heavy in Northumberland, with showers expected along the North Sea coast by mid-morning.

Snowfall is predicted to expand throughout the day, affecting regions like Yorkshire, the East of England, and north Wales by midday, as per forecasts.

By Friday afternoon, snow is set to blanket most of the Midlands, followed by a low-pressure system moving through the Home Counties, including Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Met Office indicates unsettled weather initially with more rain before turning colder on Friday, potentially bringing snow showers, especially in the north. Saturday is expected to be dry, cold, and sunny for many areas.

Parts of Southeast England are likely to experience heavy rainfall on Friday, with minimal snow impact in areas like the capital, Essex, and Kent. However, snow could disrupt travel in the East of England, East Midlands, and parts of the Home Counties.

Sunday is expected to bring heavier snowfall than Saturday, particularly in the Yorkshire Dales and the Scottish Borders.

The forecast raises concerns of increased flooding risks in already affected communities due to heavy rainfall. Numerous flood warnings are in effect, including for the River Severn and River Trent in the Midlands, along with areas of the River Thames in Berkshire, as reported by the Environment Agency.

The prolonged heavy rain, attributed to a “blocked” weather pattern, could lead to disruptions and potential flooding in eastern Scotland. The Met Office warns of significant rainfall amounts, urging public vigilance to the flooding risk, especially in higher ground areas. Andrew Hitchings, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, emphasizes the importance of remaining alert to the upcoming rain band.
