“UK Braces for Potential Heatwave Next Week”

Published on

Britons are being advised to brace for potential heatwave conditions in certain UK regions by the end of next week, according to meteorologists. The southern parts of the UK may experience temperatures soaring up to 28C or higher by Thursday, as per forecasts from the Met Office.

The southern and southeastern regions of England are expected to witness the most significant temperature increases, although thunderstorms and rain showers are also anticipated in some areas. Monday is forecasted to be dry and stable in many places, except for the North East where it may be cloudy, cooler, with possible showers and thunderstorms.

Tuesday could bring additional rain from the coast, but meteorologist Honor Criswick from the Met Office mentioned that a high-pressure system moving across the country will usher in warm and humid conditions, causing temperatures to rise above the seasonal norms in certain regions.

Criswick stated, “Warmer weather is on the horizon for the south and South East throughout the week. High pressure is strengthening, and warm air from continental Europe is moving northward.”

While the likelihood of a heatwave is uncertain, a significant warming trend is expected towards the end of the week, predominantly in the South East. Other areas will also experience temperature rises but could remain cloudy with chances of rain and showers. London could reach around 28C by Thursday, nearing the high 20s.

Looking ahead, the hot weather is projected to persist. The Met Office’s long-range forecast from June 29 to July 13 indicates that high pressure near the UK will bring dry and settled conditions, with temperatures likely above average and occasional thunderstorms, particularly in the south. By mid-July, there may be a shift in the weather pattern towards more unsettled conditions as the influence of high pressure weakens or shifts to the north or west of the UK.
