“UK Braces for Snow and Strong Winds Next Week”

Published on

Approximately 60% of the UK is expected to face snow and strong winds in the upcoming week, as indicated by weather maps.

Based on snow-depth maps from WXCharts utilizing MetDesk data, regions including Scotland, Wales, northern England, and the Midlands could encounter wintry conditions on February 25.

Incoming Atlantic weather systems from the west are anticipated to bring snow and ice overnight into Wednesday morning, affecting a significant portion of the country by midday.

The snowfall forecast for 12pm highlights Scotland with the heaviest snow, potentially impacting cities like Aberdeen, Dundee, and Glasgow. Areas in England, such as Newcastle upon Tyne and Manchester, may experience lighter snow showers, while Stoke-on-Trent could see scattered snowfall.

Northern Ireland, including Belfast, is expected to have lighter wintry showers compared to Scotland, with a possibility of snow but on a smaller scale.

By 3pm, persistent snow is forecasted for Scotland, particularly in elevated areas around Aberdeen and Dundee. Northern England may experience lingering light snow showers, especially over the Pennines, while other regions might see snow transitioning into rain. The southern areas are likely to remain dry without any snowfall.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast from February 23 to March 4 describes a “quite changeable” start with Atlantic frontal systems affecting the UK, bringing periods of rain or showers, primarily concentrated in western regions.

In the weekend outlook, the Met Office expects milder conditions with wet and windy weather at intervals.

Thursday should see drier and less windy weather for most parts, with rain and hill snow easing in the south and becoming localized to eastern England.

Various weather warnings are in place, including a yellow snow warning for Wales and parts of central England, an ice warning for Wales and parts of the West Midlands, and a rain warning for South West England and London & South East England.
