The peak of the heatwave is expected on Friday, June 19, with temperatures of at least 28C forecasted for counties including Lincolnshire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, and London. However, regions further north and west can anticipate cooler temperatures. The southwest of England, Wales, and Scotland are likely to see milder conditions, while central and northern England may experience temperatures above 20C, reaching the mid-20Cs in some areas.

Regarding the weather pattern, Schafernaker mentioned the presence of the jetstream bringing weather fronts over the UK midweek, while high pressure builds across Europe, leading to warm conditions in Portugal, Spain, and France. The extent to which this warmth will reach the UK remains uncertain.

The Met Office’s forecast for June 19 to 26 indicates a shift towards high pressure dominance by the weekend, with dry and settled conditions prevailing. Temperatures are expected to be above normal across most parts, particularly in the southeast where very warm or hot weather is probable. Windy conditions may affect coastal areas in the north and west during periods of heavy rain.
