“UK Weekend Forecast: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Ahead”

Published on

The upcoming weekend in the UK is set to bring thunderstorms to certain regions, accompanied by significant rainfall across many areas, according to the latest forecast from the Met Office.

This weather shift follows the unprecedented heatwave experienced in May, where temperatures soared above 35C in the southern parts of the country. The Met Office had previously issued several weather warnings for thunderstorms during the heatwave, and it seems more thunderstorm activity may be on the horizon.

Meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth from the Met Office mentioned that Sunday could see more scattered rain showers, especially in the northern regions. She also noted that the southwest could experience a few showers. Additionally, there is a risk of thunderstorms in the far north, with some showers potentially moving into eastern areas, although eastern England is likely to see more cloud cover than rainfall.

The latest forecast from the Met Office indicates that heavy rain will progress from the west across Scotland and Northern Ireland on Saturday, eventually reaching Wales and England. England can expect warm and sunny intervals before the rain sets in, with a mix of sunny spells and showers to follow on Sunday.

Anticipated temperatures include highs of 29C in southern regions on Saturday and maximum temperatures of 24C on Sunday. Northern areas are forecasted to reach highs of 25C on Saturday, dropping to 21C on Sunday.

The BBC’s predictions align with the Met Office’s outlook, forecasting a band of rain moving into northern areas from the west on Saturday, with varying cloud cover and showers in different regions. Sunday is expected to be cooler with variable cloudiness, especially in the west, and a possibility of showers throughout the day, particularly in the far north.

Looking ahead to Monday, the forecast indicates that cloud cover and rain showers will advance into the UK from the southwest.
