The United States has taken control of an Iranian-flagged ship near the Strait of Hormuz by causing damage to the vessel, according to statements made by Donald Trump. In a post on Truth Social, the US president revealed that the ship named TOUSKA, measuring nearly 900 feet long and weighing close to an aircraft carrier, attempted to breach the Naval Blockade but was intercepted by US Marines in the Gulf of Oman.
Trump stated that the US forces seized the cargo ship, marking the first such incident since the US implemented a blockade on Iranian ports to control maritime traffic. The ship’s crew reportedly disregarded warnings, leading the US Navy to halt their progress by creating a hole in the engine room. Iran has not responded immediately to the incident.
Iran perceives the US naval blockade as a breach of the two-week ceasefire agreement. Earlier reports from the Iranian state news agency IRNA indicated that Tehran has declined a second round of peace negotiations with the US, which Trump had proposed for Monday evening.
