Pete Hegseth commented on the alleged use of “kamikaze dolphins” by Iran in warfare during a recent press briefing. Hegseth neither confirmed nor denied if the US military is also utilizing similar tactics. The US defense secretary, when asked about reports of deploying marine mammals as weapons in the Gulf crisis, stated that he cannot confirm or deny the existence of kamikaze dolphins but affirmed they do not exist.

General Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, expressed unfamiliarity with kamikaze dolphins, likening it to the concept of sharks equipped with laser beams. Hegseth, in agreement, nonchalantly shrugged at the comparison.

Reports indicate that the Iranian regime procured trained-to-kill dolphins from the Soviet navy in 2000. These marine mammals were trained by specialists to engage enemies using harpoons attached to their bodies and to conduct kamikaze attacks against adversary vessels carrying mines.
