A notorious career criminal, responsible for over 100 offenses, led to the dismissal of a long-serving Morrisons store manager. The manager, Sean Egan, was fired for confronting Daniel Kendall, a repeat shoplifter who turned violent at the Aldridge, West Midlands supermarket. Despite following company protocol initially, Kendall’s aggressive behavior, including kicking and spitting at Mr. Egan, resulted in the manager losing his job in December.
Mr. Egan, a 46-year-old father from Wolverhampton, expressed his struggle after losing his job, emphasizing how deeply it impacted his life and sense of identity. Meanwhile, Kendall’s extensive criminal history, highlighted by numerous convictions, came to light. He was sentenced to 42 weeks in prison for stealing whiskey from Morrisons, adding to his record of theft, including chocolate and cash, as well as a prior attempted break-in at a police officer’s home in Pelsall.
Described as a well-known offender in the area, Kendall’s presence in the store triggered Mr. Egan’s recognition, leading to the altercation that changed his life. Morrisons refrained from commenting on specific cases but emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety of both employees and customers in the face of shoplifting or violence incidents. The company stressed the importance of following strict procedures to protect everyone involved and mitigate potential risks.
