US Vice President JD Vance has reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing a significant agreement, rather than settling for a minor deal, in negotiations with Iran, as per President Trump’s vision.
Vance recently led discussions with Iranian representatives in Pakistan, lasting 21 hours, which concluded without a resolution. It is anticipated that he will spearhead potential follow-up talks if they come to fruition.
Despite the existing distrust between the two nations, Vance conveyed that the Iranian counterparts displayed an interest in reaching an agreement during the negotiations.
Addressing attendees at a Turning Point USA event in Athens, Georgia on April 14, the Vice President expressed confidence in the progress of the discussions, stating, “I feel very good about where we are.”
He commended Trump’s resolute approach, emphasizing the President’s preference for a comprehensive agreement over a limited one: “He doesn’t want to make like a small deal. He wants to make the grand bargain.”
Vance highlighted the key elements of Trump’s desired deal, aiming for a scenario where Iran abstains from possessing nuclear weapons, ceases state sponsorship of terrorism, and enables the Iranian population to prosper and engage with the global economy.
Asserting the ongoing commitment to negotiations, Vance stated, “We’re going to keep on negotiating and try to make it happen. So I’m gonna keep on fighting to make it happen.”
Following Vance’s return from the talks, President Trump issued directives regarding naval actions against vessels connected to Iran, pledging to intercept those in international waters that have paid tolls to Iran and to eliminate Iranian-laid mines in the Straits.
In response to the breakdown of peace talks, the US initiated a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.
