“Warning Issued After 22-Year-Old’s Tragic Death”

Published on

The parents of a 22-year-old named George Lusby have issued a warning about the risks of child criminal exploitation, emphasizing that it can impact any child. This caution follows the tragic death of their son, who passed away at Norwich University Hospital in August 2025 due to a severe brain injury resulting from a cardiac arrest.

During the inquest proceedings, it was revealed that George had been making positive changes in his life prior to his untimely death, although he continued to struggle with his past. His parents described him as a vibrant and intelligent individual with distinctive red hair.

According to testimonies at the inquest, George’s involvement with substance misuse and mental health issues was only one aspect of his troubled story. He had faced challenges since his time at Wymondham College, where he experienced bullying and became a target for county lines drug dealers who exploited and groomed him.

Despite being diagnosed with mental health conditions like depression and PTSD, George’s journey was marked by periods of resilience and setbacks. He had difficulty engaging with mental health services, often resorting to substance use to cope with his struggles.

In the months leading up to his passing, George had shown signs of improvement by actively pursuing employment opportunities and making positive lifestyle changes. However, a night of socializing with friends that involved alcohol and non-prescribed drugs tragically led to his cardiac arrest and subsequent brain injury.

Medical professionals detailed the extent of his injuries and identified underlying heart abnormalities that contributed to his poor prognosis. Ultimately, George’s family made the difficult decision to discontinue treatment, and he passed away in August 2025.

The coroner, Johanna Thompson, recognized the complex factors in George’s life and concluded that his death was a result of misadventure. George’s grieving parents emphasized the widespread risk of child criminal exploitation, urging awareness and vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals.
