A tragic incident unfolded as a woman lost her life while attempting to rescue her pet dog from the sea, according to Lancashire Police. The unfortunate event took place in Thornton-Cleveleys on Saturday evening when the woman and a man encountered difficulties in the water while trying to aid their stranded dog.
The woman, aged in her 60s, received treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The man, also in his 60s, was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition. Fortunately, the dog was safely retrieved from the sea after the incident near Fleetwood Beach Cafe, as reported by LancsLive.
A police spokesperson revealed that emergency services were alerted at 8:31 pm following the rescue of the two individuals by HM Coastguard. The investigation to identify the woman’s next of kin is ongoing, while the man continues to receive medical care. Authorities confirmed that the dog was unharmed. The woman’s death is not considered suspicious, and a report will be submitted to the coroner in due course.
This unfortunate event adds to a series of water-related fatalities, with at least 15 reported deaths during the recent period of hot weather.
