“Woman Walking Dog Sought in Homicide Probe”

Published on

Police have unveiled new surveillance footage in connection with a homicide investigation involving the discovery of a man’s body at a nature reserve.

Authorities are seeking to locate a woman spotted walking a dog at Southampton Common, believing she may possess valuable information crucial to their inquiries. The renewed appeal follows the unearthing of the remains of Ernest Konrad Deputat, aged 45, at Ornamental Lake on Southampton Common on October 8.

Law enforcement noted evidence of a significant fire at the scene, prompting the immediate initiation of a murder probe. Two individuals arrested in connection with the case have been released on bail.

Investigators suspect that Mr. Deputat, a Polish national, had been residing off the grid at the common and was recognized within Southampton’s homeless community. Hampshire Police, while releasing the new CCTV image, stated, “We believe the woman in this image, who was seen walking a dog on Southampton Common on the morning of Saturday, September 6, might be able to help us.”

The police urge the woman or anyone familiar with her identity to contact them promptly. They also mentioned the possibility that the woman may have been previously interviewed by investigators but emphasized the importance of speaking with her again due to recent developments in the case.

Furthermore, authorities are appealing to individuals who were in the vicinity of Southampton Common on the morning of Saturday, September 6, particularly dog walkers who are yet to come forward, to provide any relevant information. They stress that even seemingly insignificant details could play a crucial role in the investigation and encourage anyone with information to reach out by calling 101 and quoting incident number 44250456238 or by submitting a report online through the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.

Following his passing, Mr. Deputat’s family paid tribute to him, describing him as a modest individual filled with dreams, whose humor and warmth left a lasting impact on everyone he met. The family expressed their love and longing for him, reminiscing about his smile, humor, and the joy he brought to their lives, and bidding him farewell with gratitude.
