Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt has reportedly decided to officially drop her father Brad Pitt’s last name. The actor, known for his role in Fight Club, shares six children with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, including Zahara, Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. Over the years since their separation, many of their children have chosen to go by the name “Jolie” instead of Pitt.
Zahara, aged 21, has filed paperwork to change her name, following in the footsteps of her older brother Maddox who recently did the same. Both siblings have published notices in a local newspaper in compliance with California law, which requires the notices to run for four issues. According to reports from USA Today, Zahara’s petition was printed in the Los Angeles Daily Journal from June 16 to July 7. A judge is set to review and potentially approve the name change request at Zahara’s upcoming hearing on September 28, barring any objections.
Prior to filing the official petition, Zahara had already begun using the name Zahara Marley Jolie, as evidenced by her identification at her university graduation from Spelman College in May.
Several of Zahara’s siblings have also distanced themselves from their father by altering their names. Shiloh completed a similar name change in 2024, and Maddox is seeking to legally become Maddox Chivan Jolie, with his hearing scheduled for September 14. Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the playbill for her work on the Broadway production of the Outsiders in 2024, while Knox opted to be recognized as Knox Jolie on his diploma from Fusion Academy.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie began their relationship after meeting on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004, shortly following Pitt’s divorce from Jennifer Aniston. They tied the knot in 2014, but their marriage ended in 2016 when they announced their separation. The couple was officially declared single in 2019.
While Brad Pitt has moved on with his new partner, Ines de Ramon, Angelina Jolie has remained single, focusing on her family. Jolie recently shared that she has not dated since her divorce a decade ago, prioritizing her children and family life. Despite feeling “broken” at times, she expressed a newfound sense of freedom and a desire to embrace life after turning 51.
