The authorities in Lancashire have recovered the body of a child from the River Ribble. The Lancashire Police reported that the body is likely that of a 12-year-old boy who encountered trouble while swimming with friends in the river at Ribchester on Tuesday afternoon.
Following concerns for the child’s well-being, emergency services were alerted to the village in the Ribble Valley just after 2 pm. A comprehensive search effort was initiated involving Lancashire Police’s underwater search team, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service crews, and the North West Ambulance Service.
At approximately 7:50 pm, Lancashire Police confirmed the retrieval of the child’s body. Although formal identification is pending, authorities believe it to be the missing boy. The incident is not considered suspicious, and a report will be forwarded to HM Coroner in the future. Trained officers are providing support to the boy’s family during this challenging period.
Expressing condolences, the police stated, “Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly distressing time.” Earlier images from the scene depicted the riverside road blocked off as rescue teams combed the water for any signs.
