Donald Trump, the current US president who is approaching his 80th birthday, was observed resting with his eyes shut during a recent event in the Oval Office. This incident has reignited discussions about his physical condition and suitability for office. Video clips circulating online captured moments where Trump appeared to be nodding off while Energy Secretary Chris Wright was speaking loudly at an event announcing a substantial financial boost to the coal industry.
The footage surfaced shortly after Secretary of State Marco Rubio refuted claims of Trump falling asleep during official engagements. However, during a congressional hearing, Democratic Representative Ted Lieu presented videos allegedly showing Trump sleeping during Cabinet meetings and a Memorial Day ceremony. Rubio defended Trump’s health and cognitive abilities, dismissing Lieu’s concerns as baseless.
In response to the latest video, Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari expressed dismay, stating that Trump had fallen asleep multiple times in the Oval Office and calling for the implementation of the 25th Amendment. This call for action comes after a year of speculation surrounding Trump’s health, fueled by various incidents like images showing physical ailments and delayed public disclosure of his medical check-up results.
Following his recent health assessment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Trump declared that all results were flawless. The White House eventually released a statement confirming the president’s excellent health status, as attested by his doctor, US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella. Despite this, some prominent medical professionals have voiced skepticism about the report, citing perceived gaps and omissions in the evaluation.
Texas vascular surgeon William Shutze, among others, questioned the credibility of the health report, suggesting that it may present an overly positive picture considering Trump’s age. This skepticism highlights ongoing concerns regarding the transparency and accuracy of information surrounding the president’s health status.
