“Amber Alert: Extreme Heat Warning Extended in Eastern England”

Published on

The Met Office has prolonged an amber weather alert for extreme heat until tomorrow.

Residents in the warned areas of eastern England and the south-east are advised against outdoor activities between 11am and 3pm due to the ongoing hot and humid conditions. The warning, now extended until 9am on Sunday, cautions that vulnerable individuals may face health risks from the extreme heat.

The general public is also at risk of health issues such as sunburn, heat exhaustion, and other heat-related illnesses, according to the forecasters.

The warning emphasizes the likelihood of necessary changes in daily routines to cope with the hot weather. Travel disruptions, potential welfare concerns for stranded individuals, increased power outages, and service interruptions are also anticipated.

The Met Office mentioned that although temperatures in eastern and southeastern England are expected to be slightly lower than recent days, they will still surpass 30C, reaching around 32 to 33C in London and East Anglia. Overnight temperatures into Sunday are not likely to dip below the high teens Celsius.

To stay safe during the heatwave, the advice includes staying hydrated, avoiding sun exposure, refraining from outdoor activities during peak sun hours, and taking precautions like carrying water, seeking shade, using sunscreen, and wearing a hat when going out.

Residents in the East Midlands, East of England, and London & South East England are urged to take necessary precautions to combat the heatwave.
