A tragic incident occurred on L’Arrabassada Beach in Tarragona, Spain, where a man lost his life after being struck by a cleaning vehicle while he was asleep on the sand. The victim, who was sleeping under a blanket, was hit early in the morning and subsequently taken to Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona. Despite initially arriving conscious, the man tragically passed away the following day.
Following the incident, a police investigation was initiated, with the driver of the cleaning vehicle stating that he had not seen the man due to his obscured visibility. The driver underwent a breath test at the scene, which he passed. The nationality of the victim has not been disclosed.
L’Arrabassada Beach, known for its family-friendly environment with fine, golden sand, is situated just over a mile and a half from the city marina. This unfortunate event is reminiscent of a similar tragedy involving a German tourist in Gran Canaria in December 2024. The tourist, a 64-year-old woman, was fatally run over by a delivery vehicle while sunbathing at the Playa del Ingles resort. The driver, who claimed he was unaware of the incident, was eventually apprehended.
The incident near the Maspalomas Dunes involved a 50-year-old driver who had been working on the beach for a decade and was familiar with the area. This serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers present on beaches, urging both visitors and drivers to exercise caution.
