“TikTok UK Partners with Charities to Boost Water Safety”

Published on

TikTok UK has made a significant contribution to water safety efforts by teaming up with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) to help prevent drownings among young people.

The social media platform is providing £400,000 worth of advertising credit to these charities, allowing them to disseminate crucial water safety advice to teenagers and young adults, particularly in anticipation of summer activities.

Simon Haycock, a father who lost his 16-year-old son to drowning in a reservoir, praised TikTok’s involvement as a crucial step forward. His advocacy through the Mirror’s ‘Save Lives for Sam’ campaign inspired this initiative after a series of tragic incidents in May and June.

Through this collaboration, RNLI will share practical tips on coastal safety, emphasizing the importance of lifeguarded beaches and understanding cold water risks. Additionally, RLSS UK aims to promote its ‘Speak up. Be A Mate’ campaign, encouraging young people to intervene when friends engage in risky water-related behaviors.

TikTok expressed its commitment to providing accessible water safety guidance, leveraging its platform to reach young audiences effectively. The RNLI and RLSS UK welcomed this partnership, highlighting the importance of educating youth on water safety to prevent drownings, particularly during hot weather.

The charities intend to utilize the donation to amplify their water safety campaigns nationwide and equip young individuals with essential knowledge to make informed decisions near open water sources. TikTok’s Head of Product Impact emphasized the platform’s role in disseminating crucial advice in a relatable manner to enhance safety awareness.

The Mirror’s ‘Save Lives For Sam’ campaign, supported by various stakeholders and families affected by drownings, is advocating for urgent actions, including enhanced water safety education in schools and improved safety measures at high-risk waterways. This collaboration aims to save lives this summer and in the future by empowering individuals to stay safe around water.
