Russian President Vladimir Putin has commanded a vicious onslaught on Ukraine, unleashing a barrage of missiles and drones on Kyiv’s civilians, resulting in the deaths of at least 17 individuals. The relentless attacks, fueled by Putin’s anger over Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil and gas supplies, have left many trapped under rubble and engulfed the capital in black smoke.
Prior to the assault, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned of an imminent major Russian offensive, stating that Putin had long been preparing for such an attack. The devastating onslaught involved nearly 600 aerial weapons, including drones, missiles, and hypersonic weaponry, causing widespread destruction and fires across Kyiv.
Despite the civilian casualties, Putin’s strategy of inflicting terror on the population seems to be backfiring, as Ukrainian resilience and successful strikes on Russian energy facilities have severely impacted Russia’s economy and military capabilities. The recent targeting of a key Russian oil refinery and other strategic sites by Ukrainian forces has dealt a significant blow to the Kremlin’s war efforts.
Furthermore, reports indicate that Russia has been conducting frequent incursions into NATO territories, disrupting civilian travel and airspace security. The International Institute for Strategic Studies has highlighted the costs incurred by European nations due to Russian activities, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and security measures in response to these incursions.
