John McEnroe had to leave his BBC commentary role during Arthur Fery’s match against Grigor Dimitrov. Fery, the lone British player in the men’s singles second week, won the opening set but Dimitrov fought back to claim the next two.
During Fery’s extended break after the second set, McEnroe exited the commentary box, leaving Andrew Cotter and Tim Henman. Cotter then informed viewers of McEnroe’s departure, stating he might not return.
McEnroe explained his departure was due to contractual obligations with American player Taylor Fritz, who was set to play Alexander Bublik. Fritz, acknowledging the tough match ahead, was ready to face either Bublik or Frances Tiafoe.
Bublik had a challenging match against Tiafoe in round three and pushed Fritz to a tie-break in the first set of their fourth-round clash. However, Fritz managed to win the set on Court 1.
