Rainfall is expected to affect many areas of the United Kingdom on Wednesday, as per the latest forecasts from the Met Office. Weather maps released by the Met Office indicate that a low-pressure system will progress eastward during the day, leading to showers that may intensify into storms in certain regions.
While temperatures soared to 29.6C in Wisley, Surrey, over the weekend, this week is anticipated to bring unsettled conditions. A weather warning for thunderstorms has already been issued for Northern Ireland on Tuesday.
The persistent low-pressure system from the west is expected to bring wet and gloomy weather across the country. Although most showers will be isolated and sporadic, the heaviest rainfall is predicted for the Northwest of England and western Scotland.
The most intense and frequent downpours are forecasted for the evening, with a likelihood of thunderstorms, particularly in areas like Aberdeenshire, Dumfries and Galloway, and Northumberland, according to Metdesk meteorologists.
Showers are also expected in Devon overnight on Wednesday, with temperatures ranging from 12C to 23C across the UK, with cooler conditions in the northern regions. Thursday is projected to bring more unsettled weather, with rain anticipated in West Yorkshire and East Yorkshire, according to the Express.
In its five-day outlook, the Met Office is warning of heavy rainfall starting on Tuesday, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms. Patchy conditions are expected to persist, particularly in the north, from Wednesday through to Friday.
Today
The southern regions will remain mostly dry today with sunny intervals and hot temperatures. Cloudier conditions and occasional rain showers are expected in the north and west, especially in Scotland.
Tonight
There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms in southern England this evening, while the rest of the country will experience a mainly dry and warm night. Cloudy skies elsewhere may bring rain showers and a potential for thunderstorms.
Tuesday
Heavy rain is forecasted in the northern regions today with a risk of thunderstorms. The southern areas may experience scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms. The day will be very warm and humid, with windy conditions in the north.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday
The north is expected to see unsettled weather over the next few days with periods of rain or showers. While some showers are likely in the south initially, conditions are expected to improve and become drier from Thursday onwards.
